Welcome Note from our General Editor
A welcome note from our General Editor, Dr Vassiliki Kolocotroni (University of Glasgow):
Welcome to the Routledge Encyclopedia of Modernism!
Over 1,500 expert contributors have worked hard to bring you the most comprehensive interdisciplinary resource on modernism – across the arts and around the world.
Aimed at students and scholars of modernism, this formidable collection comprises entries on Architecture and Design, Dance, Drama and Performance, Film, Intellectual Currents and Movements, Literature, Music and the Visual Arts.
Entries vary in length (from broad overviews that aim to map a field to shorter, informative accounts of individual works, concepts and creators), covering modernism’s timelines from a global perspective. The Encyclopedia also features audiovisual material and teaching resources, which we are always keen to expand, so do please get in touch if you would be interested in sharing and showcasing your pedagogy in the field!
The summaries of all articles are available as free content and we are constantly adding more material. Watch for regular updates as REM continues to expand with new and revised entries, and more powerful tools for navigating the content.
So, feel free to explore, test out the features, and let us know what you think. If you are already using the resource, please share your experience with us. We would appreciate your feedback and suggestions for improving the collection, its pedagogical and scholarly uses and its relevance.
